Iron-on patch

Zoo Atlanta

$8.00

Zoo Atlanta is an AZA-accredited zoo in Atlanta's Grant Park, founded in 1889 when businessman George V. Gress bought a bankrupt traveling circus and gave its animals to the city. After a decline, the zoo was privatized and renamed Zoo Atlanta in 1985, and a long restoration followed, including The Ford African Rain Forest, which opened in 1988 and where 24 western lowland gorillas have since been born. From 1999 to 2024 the zoo was home to the giant pandas Lun Lun and Yang Yang, who had seven cubs there, including the first twin pandas born in the U.S. since 1987; the whole family returned to China in October 2024. After two years without pandas, a new pair, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, arrived on September 27, 2026 under a new agreement with China. The zoo also houses African elephants, Sumatran tigers, and both Bornean and Sumatran orangutans.
