World's Smallest Church

Cross Island Chapel is a tiny non-denominational church built on a small wooden deck in Mason's Pond near Oneida, New York, reachable only by boat. Erected in 1989, the chapel measures just 4 feet 3 inches by 6 feet 9 inches, and in July 1990 it took the title of the world's smallest church by out-measuring the previous record holder, Union Church in Wiscasset, Maine. It seats only a few visitors and remains open to the public for weddings and quiet reflection; as of 2021, a local wedding organizer confirmed it can still hold ceremonies with about six people inside.
