Wissahickon Valley Park is a 2,042-acre (8.26 km²) urban park in Northwest Philadelphia that protects the woodland along Wissahickon Creek between the Montgomery County line and the Schuylkill River. For several miles the creek runs through a deep wooded gorge, the Wissahickon Valley, which is a National Natural Landmark. Forbidden Drive, a car-free gravel road, runs the length of the valley and is used for walking, running, cycling and horseback riding, while side trails climb to rugged bridle paths; the park has about 50 miles of trails in all. Landmarks along the creek include the Valley Green Inn, a tavern built in 1850, the Thomas Mill Covered Bridge and Devil's Pool. The park was part of Fairmount Park from 1867 until 2010 and is now a unit of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the city's second-largest park after Fairmount.
