Willis Tower Skydeck

$8.00

The Skydeck is the observation deck on the 103rd floor of Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower, 1,353 feet above Chicago's Loop. The tower is 108 stories by the standard count (110 by the owners' count) and 1,451 feet tall; architect Bruce Graham and structural engineer Fazlur Rahman Khan of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed its bundled-tube structure of nine square tubes. The building was finished in 1973 as the world's tallest, a title it held for nearly 25 years, and the Skydeck opened on June 22, 1974. In 2009 the Ledge, a set of glass boxes that extend about four feet out from the facade, opened to visitors, who can stand over South Wacker Drive. On clear days the view reaches across Lake Michigan to Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, and about 1.7 million people visit each year.
