Whetstone Park of Roses

$8.00

The Whetstone Park of Roses, officially the Columbus Park of Roses, is a free public rose garden in the Clintonville neighborhood of north Columbus, Ohio. Its 13 acres sit inside the city's 148-acre Whetstone Park and hold about 11,000 roses of some 350 varieties, making it one of the largest public rose gardens in the country. Beyond the symmetrical single-variety beds of the Formal Rose Garden are the Heritage, Perennial, Herb and Backyard gardens and an arboretum of about 138 tree and shrub varieties. The park opened in June 1953 and hosted the American Rose Society's national convention that September, and a restored 1878 gazebo from Fort Hayes now serves as the stage for summer concerts. It is run by the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and is open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk.
