Wekiwa Springs State Park

$8.00

Wekiwa Springs State Park is a 7,000-acre Florida state park in Apopka, about 20 minutes north of Orlando, that protects the headwaters of the Wekiva River. Its spring pours about 42 million gallons of water a day into the river and stays at 72 °F year-round, feeding a swimming area that ranges from under a foot to five feet deep. The Apopka Sportsmen's Club bought the land in 1941, and it has been open to visitors as a state park since 1970. Visitors rent canoes and kayaks at the nature center and hike, bike or ride horses on a trail network whose main hiking trail runs 13.5 miles. Black bears, bobcats and alligators live in the park, and two snails found nowhere else on Earth live in the spring.
