Iron-on patch

Washington Park

$8.00

Washington Park is a city park on the west side of Springfield, Illinois, run by the Springfield Park District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city bought the land in 1900 and began building the park in 1901, draining and dredging wet ground to make its ponds and lawns. Inside the park is the Washington Park Botanical Garden, where a domed conservatory and outdoor gardens hold more than 1,200 plant species, next to a 5,000-plant rose garden. Its landmark is the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon, a 132-foot tower dedicated in 1962 whose 67 bells make it one of the largest carillons in the world. Walking trails, a large duck pond and the Velasco Tennis Center fill out the grounds.
