Turtle River State Park

Turtle River State Park, near Grand Forks, North Dakota, follows the Turtle River through a wooded valley that stands out from the flat, largely treeless farmland of the Red River Valley region. A stone lodge and several cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s remain part of the park's facilities. The river valley has long served as a natural travel corridor, historically used by Native peoples and later fur traders moving through the region. Its forested setting is unusual for a park so close to North Dakota's open prairie.
