Tsunami Clock of Doom

The Tsunami Clock of Doom is a stopped clock displayed along the Hawaii Belt Road in Hilo, on Hawaii's Big Island. The clock survived a 1946 tsunami that killed 96 people, but its hands stopped for good at 1:04 a.m. on May 23, 1960, the moment a second tsunami, triggered by a magnitude-9.5 earthquake off the coast of Chile, tore through the low-lying Waiakea Town neighborhood and killed 61 residents. It now stands as a memorial along the shoreline, a plain, blunt marker of exactly when the wave hit.
