Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

$8.00

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is a coastal state park of about 2,000 acres in San Diego, bordered by Torrey Pines Golf Course to the south and the city of Del Mar to the north. It protects a plateau of sandstone cliffs above Torrey Pines State Beach and a lagoon used by migrating seabirds, and it is the only place in the world where the Torrey pine subspecies, the rarest pine in North America, grows wild. About 8 miles of trails, including the Guy Fleming, Razor Point and Beach trails, cross the reserve, and a small museum sits at the top of the hill. The land was first set aside as a city park in 1899, handed to the State of California in 1956, and designated a National Natural Landmark in 1977.
