This Is The Place Heritage Park

$8.00

This Is the Place Heritage Park is a Utah state park on the east side of Salt Lake City at the mouth of Emigration Canyon, marking the overlook where Brigham Young and the 1847 pioneers first saw the Salt Lake Valley. Tradition holds that Young, ill in the back of a wagon, looked out over the valley on July 24, 1847 and said, "This is the right place"; the company then went on into the valley and settled near today's Temple Square. The This Is the Place Monument by Mahonri M. Young, Brigham Young's grandson, was dedicated on the centennial in 1947 before a crowd of nearly 50,000. Since 1975, pioneer-era buildings from around Utah have been restored or relocated here to form a living-history village, which a private foundation has managed since 1998.
