Theodore Wirth Park

$8.00

Theodore Wirth Park is a 759-acre regional park on the west side of Minneapolis that extends across the city line into Golden Valley, managed by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Established in 1889 as Saratoga Park and soon renamed Glenwood Park, it took its current name in 1938 in honor of Theodore Wirth, the city's parks superintendent from 1906 to 1936. The park holds Wirth Lake, Birch Pond, an 18-hole and a 9-hole golf course, mountain bike trails, snow tubing hills and cross-country ski trails that hosted the 2024 Loppet Cup. It also contains the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary, founded in 1907 as the first public wildflower garden in the United States. The park forms a large part of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway.
