The Durham Museum is a history museum in Omaha's former Union Station at 801 South 10th Street, just south of the Old Market. Designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood and completed in 1931, the station was Union Pacific's first Art Deco depot and is a National Historic Landmark. After passenger service ended in 1971, Union Pacific gave the building to the city in 1973 and it became the Western Heritage Museum; a $22 million renovation funded largely by Charles and Margre Durham led to its renaming, and it has been The Durham Museum since 2008. Exhibits include a Union Pacific steam locomotive, a Pullman sleeper and other rail cars on the old track level, a 1940s Omaha streetcar, a replica of the 1915 Buffett Grocery storefront and the Byron Reed coin collection. It is a Smithsonian affiliate.
