Iron-on patch

Texas Theatre

$8.00

The Texas Theatre is a movie palace on West Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff, designed by W. Scott Dunne in the Italian Renaissance Revival style. When it opened on April 21, 1931, it was the largest suburban movie theater in Dallas and the first in the city with air conditioning, part of a chain financed by Howard Hughes. On November 22, 1963, police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald in its auditorium during a showing of Cry of Battle and War Is Hell, on suspicion of killing officer J.D. Tippit and President John F. Kennedy. The theater closed in 1989, had its facade remodeled for Oliver Stone's JFK and was nearly destroyed by a 1995 fire before the Oak Cliff Foundation took it over in 2001. Today it runs as a two-screen repertory cinema and event venue.
