Smith Rock State Park

Smith Rock State Park, near Terrebonne, Oregon, is known for its tuff and basalt cliffs and spires rising above a bend in the Crooked River. The park is widely regarded as the birthplace of American sport climbing, where climbers in the early 1980s, including Alan Watts, pioneered bolt-protected routes and techniques that spread throughout the country's climbing culture. Beyond climbing, the park's Misery Ridge Trail is a popular hike offering views over the river canyon. Its dramatic rock formations draw both climbers and hikers from across the region.
