Slide Rock State Park, in Oak Creek Canyon near Sedona, Arizona, takes its name from a natural water slide formed where Oak Creek flows over smooth, algae-slicked sandstone. The park occupies the former Pendley Homestead, an apple orchard established in 1907 by settler Frank Pendley, whose innovative irrigation system helped the farm thrive in the dry canyon. Portions of the historic orchard are still maintained today. The creek's slide and swimming holes make the park one of the most popular summer destinations in the Sedona area.
