Iron-on patch

Seminole Heights

$8.00

Seminole Heights is a historic neighborhood district in central Tampa, about three miles north of downtown, made up of Old Seminole Heights, South Seminole Heights and Southeast Seminole Heights. It began in 1911, when T. Roy Young started developing 40 acres there as a suburb connected to downtown by streetcar, and it filled in with homes and businesses through the Florida boom years of the 1920s. The neighborhood is known for its early 20th-century Craftsman bungalows and landmarks such as Hillsborough High School and Seminole Heights United Methodist Church, and it has the longest stretch of riverfront parkland in the city along the Hillsborough River. Its core, the Seminole Heights Residential District, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, and the Hampton Terrace Historic District followed in 1999. After a late 20th-century downturn, the area has revived with new restaurants, brewpubs and independent shops.
