Iron-on patch

San Antonio Zoo

$8.00

San Antonio Zoo covers 57 acres in Brackenridge Park north of downtown and is home to more than 750 species, some of them endangered or extinct in the wild. It grew from the bison, deer, monkeys, lions and bears that George Washington Brackenridge placed on land he had deeded to the city in 1914. In November 1929 it opened two of the first cageless exhibits in the United States, and it added the Richard Friedrich Aquarium in 1948 and the Hixon Bird House in 1966. Its narrow-gauge zoo train, once called the Brackenridge Eagle, has run through the park since 1956. Recent additions include the Naylor Savanna, the largest habitat in the zoo's history, in 2024, and the Congo Falls gorilla habitat in December 2025.
