Iron-on patch

Sacramento Zoo

$8.00

The Sacramento Zoo is a 14.3-acre zoo in William Land Park that opened on June 2, 1927, with 40 animals on 4.2 acres. It grew to its present size in the early 1960s and took its current name in 1970, and since 1997 the nonprofit Sacramento Zoological Society has run it. The zoo is home to around 500 animals, with habitats such as the Tall Wonders giraffe barn, a river otter exhibit and Small Wonders of Africa. A plan announced in 2024 to move the zoo to a larger site in Elk Grove was cancelled in April 2025 over its cost, and the city council instead approved an expansion at the Land Park site.
