Iron-on patch

Ruby Falls

$8.00

Ruby Falls is an underground waterfall in Ruby Falls Cave inside Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, reached by elevator and visited only on guided tours along lit, paved cave trails. The cave had no natural entrance: chemist and cave enthusiast Leo Lambert found it in 1928 while his crew drilled a shaft toward the neighboring Lookout Mountain Cave, and he named the falls for his wife, Ruby. The water pours down a vertical shaft at the end of the cave's main passage, fed by rain that seeps through the limestone, and pumps keep it flowing year-round. Public tours began in 1930, and it was one of the first commercial caves lit with electric lights. The Lookout Mountain Caverns complex that includes it is designated a National Historic Landmark.
