Iron-on patch

Roeding Park

$8.00

Roeding Park is one of Fresno's oldest city parks, created in 1903 when Frederick and Marianne Roeding gave the city 70 acres on the condition it remain a public park. The Roedings added more land in 1908 and the city bought another 40 acres from them in 1924, and Stockton landscape architect Johannes Reimers laid out its groves and drives. The Fresno Chaffee Zoo fills about a third of the park, and the southwest corner holds the Playland and Storyland amusement areas beside a lake. The rest is ponds, picnic areas, tennis courts, a Southern Pacific locomotive, a Japanese War Memorial and groves of ash, cedar, pine, eucalyptus, maple and redwood. A 2009 survey found the park eligible for the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district.
