Rock Cut State Park, near Loves Park, Illinois, takes its name from a 19th-century limestone quarry that once supplied building and railroad stone for the Rockford area. The park's two lakes, Pierce Lake and Olson Lake, were created by damming Willow Creek within the old quarry grounds. Both lakes are popular for swimming, fishing, and boating. The park's proximity to Rockford makes it one of the more heavily used state parks in northern Illinois.
