Robbers Cave State Park, near Wilburton, Oklahoma, sits in the San Bois Mountains, part of the broader Ouachita Mountains region. Local legend holds that outlaws, including Belle Starr and members of the Jesse James gang, once used the park's sandstone caves and rugged terrain as hideouts in the late 1800s, giving the park its name. Civilian Conservation Corps crews built many of the park's original structures in the 1930s. Its cliffs and cave formations remain popular for hiking and rock climbing today.
