Iron-on patch

River Street

$8.00

River Street is a cobblestoned commercial street along the Savannah River, below Bay Street in downtown Savannah. Its busiest stretch is about a mile long, roughly nine blocks, running east from the Talmadge Memorial Bridge beneath City Hall and Yamacraw Bluff, and it includes the half-mile John P. Rousakis Riverfront Plaza. The south side is lined with former King Cotton warehouses, the working back sides of the Bay Street buildings, which were also used to hold enslaved Africans; Factors Walk, where cotton brokers struck their deals, runs along the bluff above. Today the warehouses hold restaurants, cafés and shops, riverboats berth alongside, and container ships bound for the Port of Savannah pass within yards of the promenade. The Plant Riverside District opened at the street's west end in 2020.
