Rio Bosque Wetlands Park

$8.00

Rio Bosque Wetlands Park is a 372-acre City of El Paso park in the Lower Valley, managed by the University of Texas at El Paso's Center for Environmental Resource Management. It is a restoration project bringing back the wetlands and riverside forest, or bosque, that once lined the Rio Grande in the Paso del Norte region and are now almost entirely gone. The park is watered by treated wastewater from the neighboring Roberto Bustamante plant, by wells and windmills, and by Rio Grande irrigation water, and a rebuilt channel follows the river's course from before it was channelized in the 1930s. Three loop trails start near the visitor center: the accessible 0.6-mile Bosque Trail, the 1.5-mile Wetland Trail and the 2.4-mile Rio Trail. The park is open dawn to dusk every day, and UTEP leads free guided walks, including a birding tour, twice a month.
