Red Rocks Amphitheatre

$8.00

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is an open-air amphitheater in Red Rocks Park near Morrison in Jefferson County, Colorado, about ten miles (16 km) southwest of Denver. The park belongs to the City and County of Denver as part of the Denver Mountain Parks system, which is why this foothills venue is a Denver landmark: the city bought the land from John Brisben Walker in 1927-28 and still owns and operates the amphitheater. Its 9,525-seat bowl sits between two huge red sandstone monoliths, Ship Rock and Creation Rock, with the smaller Stage Rock nearby. Designed by Burnham F. Hoyt and built by Civilian Conservation Corps and WPA crews starting in 1936, it was dedicated on June 15, 1941, and has hosted The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and U2's concert film Under a Blood Red Sky. Red Rocks Park and its CCC camp were designated a National Historic Landmark in 2015.
