Preservation Hall is a jazz venue on St. Peter Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, dedicated to traditional New Orleans jazz. The building was an art gallery in the 1950s whose owner, Larry Borenstein, invited local musicians to play for tips, and in 1961 it became a music venue named Preservation Hall. Allan and Sandra Jaffe took over management that September and hired veteran local players, and from 1963 the Hall's bands began touring the U.S. and abroad. Today the Hall is home to a house band, a record label and a nonprofit foundation that teaches young musicians.
