Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, near Ontonagon, Michigan, is the largest state park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, covering roughly 60,000 acres of forest, much of it old-growth hardwood and hemlock rarely found elsewhere in the Midwest. Its Lake of the Clouds overlook, looking down into a lake-filled valley from atop an escarpment, is one of the most photographed views in Michigan. The Presque Isle River area, on the park's western edge, includes a series of waterfalls along a rugged gorge. The park's size and undeveloped backcountry make it a major backpacking destination in the region.
