Iron-on patch

Pioneer Park

$8.00

Pioneer Park is a free, 17.8-acre city park at 526 E. Main Street in central Mesa, Arizona, a short walk from the Mesa Arizona Temple. Its best-known resident is Southern Pacific No. 2355, a Baldwin 4-6-0 "Ten-Wheeler" steam locomotive built in 1912 that ran for 45 years before it was retired in 1957 and donated to the city on April 12, 1958. The engine was fenced off for safety in the 1990s and has since been cosmetically restored in place, with new lighting and interpretive signs; only one other locomotive of its class survives. The park also has a 15-foot water wall and splash pad, treehouse play structures, a 500-foot suspension bridge, a rose garden, a lighted basketball court and shaded ramadas, and it is open from sunrise to 10 p.m.
