Ping Tom Memorial Park

$8.00

Ping Tom Memorial Park is a 17-acre public park on the Chicago River at the edge of Chicago's Chinatown, run by the Chicago Park District. It was built on part of a former Santa Fe rail yard and opened on October 2, 1999, after Chinatown had gone decades without a sizable park. Ernest C. Wong of Site Design Group designed it with a pagoda-style pavilion, the Four Dragon Gateway and bamboo gardens along the riverbank. The park is named for Ping Tom, the Chinatown businessman and civic leader who pushed for it, and a bronze bust of him stands near the pavilion. A second phase north of 18th Street added more riverfront, a boathouse that opened in 2013 and a field house.
