Pin Point Heritage Museum

$8.00

Pin Point Heritage Museum tells the story of Pin Point, a Gullah Geechee community on the tidal marsh south of Savannah that was founded in the 1890s by formerly enslaved people and their descendants from nearby Ossabaw, Green and Skidaway islands. The museum occupies the former A.S. Varn & Son oyster and crab factory near the Moon River marsh; crab and oyster canning was the community's main employer from the 1920s into the 1980s. Run by the Coastal Heritage Society, it uses indoor and outdoor exhibits and guided tours to cover Pin Point's religion, language, food and working life on the water. Pin Point is also the birthplace of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. The museum is open Thursday through Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM, with guided tours at 10 AM, noon and 2 PM.
