Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum (USS Yorktown)

$8.00

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is a naval museum at the mouth of the Cooper River in Mount Pleasant, across Charleston Harbor from downtown Charleston. Its centerpiece is USS Yorktown (CV-10), an Essex-class aircraft carrier commissioned in 1943 that fought across the Pacific in World War II, recovered the Apollo 8 command module in 1968, and opened to the public here in 1976. The destroyer USS Laffey, which survived one of the war's most intense kamikaze attacks during the Battle of Okinawa, joined the museum in 1978. The site also has a replica Vietnam War-era naval base and the Congressional Medal of Honor Museum aboard Yorktown, and it draws more than 300,000 visitors a year.
