Iron-on patch

Overton Park

$8.00

Overton Park is a 342-acre public park in Midtown Memphis, designed by landscape architect George Kessler and established in 1906. Its grounds hold the Memphis Zoo, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Levitt Shell, a 9-hole golf course, Rainbow Lake, Veterans Plaza and the 21-acre Greensward. On the east side, the Old Forest Arboretum is one of the few remaining old-growth forests in Tennessee, with walking trails and markers for 32 tree species. In the 1960s and 70s residents fought a plan to run Interstate 40 through the park, and the U.S. Supreme Court sided with them in Citizens to Preserve Overton Park v. Volpe (1971). Elvis Presley gave his first paid concert at the park's band shell on July 30, 1954.
