Oregon Vortex

The Oregon Vortex is a roadside attraction built around a small building — originally a 1904 gold assay office — that slid off its foundation in the early 1910s and came to rest at an odd angle. Prospector William McCollugh rediscovered the site in 1914 and convinced geologist John Litster to investigate claims of strange visual and physical effects there. Litster opened it to tourists in 1930, and it passed to new owners, Ernie and Irene Cooper, after his death in 1959; their descendants still run it. Visitors are shown optical-illusion demonstrations inside the crooked building, attributed by the attraction to a supposed "vortex" rather than the building's tilt.
