The Old Market is a historic district in downtown Omaha bounded by 10th, 13th, Farnam and Jackson Streets. Developed in the late 1800s as a wholesale and warehouse center, it had emptied out by the 1960s, and its buildings were converted into apartments, restaurants and shops until it became an entertainment district by 1970. It keeps its brick-paved streets from the turn of the 20th century, covered sidewalks in places and horse-drawn carriages, and its blocks are full of restaurants, art galleries, shops and street performers. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and designated an Omaha Landmark in 1985.
