Natural Bridge State Resort Park, near Slade, Kentucky, protects Natural Bridge, a large sandstone arch roughly 78 feet long and 65 feet high, reachable by hiking trail or by a sky lift built in 1962. The park sits within the Red River Gorge Geological Area, part of Daniel Boone National Forest and one of the most popular rock-climbing destinations in the eastern United States. Its sandstone cliffs and arches were carved over millions of years by erosion of the region's layered rock. The park includes a lodge and cabins overlooking the gorge.
