Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park

The Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park protects a roadless stretch of towering sea cliffs along Kauai's northwest shore, some rising more than 3,000 feet directly from the ocean. Access is limited to the roughly 11-mile Kalalau Trail, considered one of the most demanding and scenic hikes in the country, along with boat tours and helicopter flights. At the trail's end, Kalalau Valley was historically home to Native Hawaiian communities who farmed taro on terraces still visible on the valley floor today. The park's combination of extreme terrain and isolation has kept much of the coastline largely inaccessible except on foot or by water.
