The Museum of Fine Arts is an art museum on Huntington Avenue in Boston's Fenway neighborhood and one of the most comprehensive art museums in the Americas, holding more than 450,000 works of art, including over 8,000 paintings. Founded in 1870, it first occupied the top floor of the Boston Athenæum and then a Gothic Revival building in Copley Square before moving in 1909 to its current neoclassical home designed by Guy Lowell. John Singer Sargent painted the murals of its rotunda and colonnades between 1916 and 1925. The Art of the Americas Wing, designed by Foster and Partners around a glass-enclosed courtyard, opened in 2010. The museum draws more than 1.2 million visitors a year.
