Mount Airy Forest

$8.00

Mount Airy Forest is a city park of about 1,459 acres on Cincinnati's west side and the largest park in the Cincinnati Parks system. It was established in 1911 on hillside farmland ruined by erosion, and is described as one of the earliest, if not the first, urban reforestation projects in the United States. Much of the replanting was done in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, whose rustic structures still stand. The park now holds about 700 acres of reforested hardwoods, 200 acres of evergreens, wetlands, meadows and a 120-acre arboretum, crossed by hiking trails and bridle paths. It also has an 18-hole disc golf course, a dog park and a wheelchair-accessible treehouse built in 2006, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
