Moran State Park, on Orcas Island in Washington's San Juan Islands near Eastsound, was donated to the state in the 1920s by Robert Moran, a former Seattle mayor and shipbuilder who had built his fortune constructing vessels including a U.S. Navy battleship. The park's Mount Constitution, at 2,409 feet the highest point in the San Juan Islands, is topped by a stone observation tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and modeled on medieval European watchtowers. Several lakes within the park, including Cascade Lake and Mountain Lake, offer swimming and fishing. The park's mix of forest, lakes, and mountain views makes it one of the most popular destinations in the San Juans.
