Mitchell Park Domes

$8.00

The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, known as the Domes, is a set of three conical glass conservatories in Mitchell Park on Milwaukee's south side, run by Milwaukee County Parks. The Floral Show Dome opened in 1964, the Tropical Dome in 1966 and the Desert Dome in 1967, replacing a Victorian conservatory that stood in the park from 1898 to 1955. The Tropical Dome holds nearly 1,000 species of plants, the Desert Dome shows the arid flora of the Americas, Africa and Madagascar, and the Floral Show Dome stages seasonal shows. The Domes have a long history of structural trouble: all three closed in February 2016 over falling concrete and reopened after repairs later that year, a 2019 study recommended demolition, and the county approved renovation plans in November 2024. Individual domes can close for repair work, so check which ones are open before you visit.
