The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is an 11-acre park just north of the Walker Art Center, which runs it as its own sculpture garden in coordination with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Opened in 1988 on the former Armory Gardens and expanded in 1992, it is one of the largest urban sculpture gardens in the United States, with about 40 permanent works. Its centerpiece is the Spoonbridge and Cherry fountain by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. A reconstruction finished in 2017 joined the garden and the museum into a single 19-acre Walker campus, and Siah Armajani's Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge links the garden to Loring Park across Hennepin Avenue and I-94.
