Millennium Park & Cloud Gate

$8.00

Millennium Park is a 24.5-acre public park in the northwestern corner of Grant Park, in Chicago's Loop, run by the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. Bounded by Michigan Avenue, Randolph Street, Columbus Drive and Monroe Drive, it was built over former Illinois Central rail yards and parking lots, and because it sits on top of garages and Millennium Station it is often described as the world's largest rooftop garden. The park opened on July 16, 2004, four years behind schedule, at a final cost of $475 million. Its free attractions include Frank Gehry's Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Jaume Plensa's Crown Fountain, the Lurie Garden and Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate, the mirrored sculpture known as the Bean. Cloud Gate was shown unfinished at the park's 2004 opening, completed in 2005 and formally dedicated on May 15, 2006.
