Iron-on patch

Meux Home Museum

$8.00

The Meux Home Museum is an 1889 Victorian house at Tulare and R streets on the east edge of downtown Fresno, built for Dr. Thomas Richard Meux, a Tennessee physician and former Confederate army surgeon who arrived in Fresno in 1887. The family kept the house almost unaltered until daughter Anne Meux died in 1970, so its papered walls and ceilings, carved woodwork, stained glass and gas light fixtures survive. The city bought the house in 1973, restored it, and opened it as a museum in 1975, the same year it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its corner conical turret and a porch wrapping three sides make it one of Fresno's best-known pioneer-era homes.
