Iron-on patch

Malcolm X Birthsite

$8.00

The Malcolm X Birthsite in North Omaha marks the place where Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, first lived with his parents Earl and Louise Little. The family left Omaha for Milwaukee in 1926, and the house at the historic address of 3448 Pinkney Street was torn down in 1965, before its owners knew of the connection. Civic and union activist Rowena Moore, whose family owned the property, led the effort to recognize the site and founded the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation, whose grounds, fronting Evans Street, now cover about 10 acres. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and received a Nebraska state historical marker in 1987.
