Iron-on patch

Magoffin Home State Historic Site

$8.00

The Magoffin Home is an 1875 adobe house at 1120 Magoffin Avenue in central El Paso, built by pioneer Joseph Magoffin and home to his family for 109 years. Its thick adobe walls and Greek Revival trim make it an example of the Territorial style, and its three wings hold 19 rooms, 8 fireplaces and 14-foot ceilings. Many original furnishings are still on display, including an 11.5-foot-tall half-tester bed. The site also tells the story of Magoffinsville, the settlement James Wiley Magoffin built nearby after buying the land in 1849, which became the first home of Fort Bliss in 1854. Sold to the City of El Paso and the State of Texas in 1976 and restored in 1977–78, the house is now run by the Texas Historical Commission, with guided tours starting from a visitor center across the street.
