Mackinac Island State Park

Mackinac Island State Park covers roughly 80 percent of Mackinac Island in the straits between Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The island was originally designated Mackinac National Park in 1875, the second national park established in the United States after Yellowstone, before the federal government transferred it to Michigan in 1895 to become the state's first state park. No motor vehicles are allowed on the island; residents and visitors get around by bicycle, horse, or on foot. The park includes historic Fort Mackinac and Arch Rock, a natural limestone arch overlooking Lake Huron.
