Los Angeles Union Station is the main railroad station in Los Angeles and the largest passenger rail terminal in the western United States. It opened in May 1939 to consolidate the Santa Fe, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific passenger services, and is often called the last of the great railway stations built in the country. Designed largely by John and Donald Parkinson, the building blends Mission Revival, Art Deco and Streamline Moderne styles, with a grand waiting room, enclosed garden patios and a former Fred Harvey restaurant designed by Mary Colter. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The station serves Amtrak, Metrolink and Metro Rail and sits across Alameda Street from El Pueblo de Los Ángeles.
