Long Beach Airport Historic Terminal

$8.00

The Long Beach Airport Historic Terminal is the Streamline Moderne terminal building at Long Beach Airport, also known as Daugherty Field, about three miles northeast of downtown Long Beach. Designed by architects William Horace Austin and Kenneth Smith Wing, it was built in 1941 at the airport the city had created in 1923 on barnstormer Earl Daugherty's old flying field. Its murals and mosaics by artist Grace Clements, completed in 1941 with support from the Works Progress Administration, depict aviation, navigation and constellations. The city later declared the terminal a historic landmark, and about $5 million of a 2012 modernization went to refurbishing it. A later phase of work approved in 2020 includes a seismic retrofit of the historic building.
