Iron-on patch

Little Italy

$8.00

Little Italy is a neighborhood in the northwest corner of downtown San Diego, bounded by West Laurel Street, West Ash Street, Interstate 5 and Pacific Highway. It grew up as an Italian and Portuguese fishing neighborhood whose families built and crewed the tuna fleet behind San Diego's canning industry, which expanded after the first large cannery opened in 1911 and ended when the last canneries closed in the early 1980s. India Street is its main corridor, lined with Italian restaurants, grocers, galleries and plazas across a walkable 48-block area. The Little Italy Mercato farmers market runs on Saturdays and Wednesdays, and the October Little Italy Festa is billed as the largest Italian festival outside New York City.
